One pound of body fat equates to approximately 3,500 calories. It amazes me how many people shred pounds by simply cutting soda consumption out of their diet. We put so many unhealthy things in our body and one of the most common “things” is high fructose corn syrup which is used in most sodas such as Dr. Pepper, Coke and Pepsi. Imagine if you cut out regular soda for a year out of your diet. Let’s also assume you have...

On July 8, 2011, in their weekly distributed Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, the Center for Disease Control provided additional guidance on the timing of birth control for the post partum...

The 50 year anniversary of the invention of the birth control pill was celebrated one year ago. The pill has been acclaimed for its ability to give women control over their fertility. The pill of today is very different than the first pill. Through science, the pill has been refined again and again to maintain its safety for patients. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oils and flaxseed oil. It is a “good” fat in that it is NOT a saturated fat, a trans-fat or an omega-6 fatty acid, these are “bad” fats. These bad fats are highly consumed in the typical American diet. They are found in meats and certain vegetable oils including soy, sunflower, safflower and corn oil. These oils are associated with increased risk of...

Pregnant women can ease their minds about drinking a cup of coffee or having a soft drink. According to The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, moderate caffeine consumption doesn't appear to cause miscarriage or preterm birth. It still remains unclear whether high levels of caffeine consumption may cause an increase in miscarriages. Moderate caffeine consumption is considered less than 200 mg of caffeine per day. For example, 12 ounces of coffee contains approximately 200 mg of caffeine....
